Celebrating our 6 year anniversary

I’m not sure where to start this post off today….so much happened over the weekend!

Why don’t I start at Saturday then…. so, as many of you know Nigella our little chicken is still at the avian vet’s getting treatment for Heavy Metal Poisoning. It looks as though she potentially ate (quite a lot of) lead at some point a couple of weeks ago. Lead is in a lot of things that are old; lead paint, lead nails, roofing materials, fishing equipment… the list is endless, and soil acts as a filter and harbours it. So us renovating an old home crossed with me collecting old things makes lead probably more available to a little chicken picking and scratching at ground level. Plus, we trimmed a collar for our flue for our fireplace which was made from zinc four weeks ago. Even though this was cleaned up, I’m fairly confident Nigella must of found a little stash somewhere. Heavy Metal Poisoning is very harmful and can be deadly, it affects pets and humans.

In light of this, Timothy O and I completely blitzed underneath our house on Saturday and threw out and sorted a lot of junk essentially. There are no photographs of this happening for ‘Weekend in Pictures’ as it was very very ugly…. and I would prefer not to remember it.

After a scrub down I popped over to see Sally O and to take a blanket stitch lesson. I’m working on a little blanket project and I need a lot of blankets hemmed, so Sally very kindly (she may of been forced)  has been stitching quite a few for me. Though with my lesson under my belt I’m set to handle ‘Project Blanket’ myself now. It was very relaxing to stitch and gaze into her newly installed fire.

Sunday here consisted of us doing more cleaning and organising under the house…. Timothy O applied the final ‘clear cote’ of the dining room floors and then did some patch up painting in the dining room, We received a delivery of wood, I planted 185 bulbs in the garden (i can’t wait for spring… hello colour!) while the girls watched on from the veggie patch.

We then slumped down in the backyard to celebrate our six year anniversary. I remember this date would mean going to fancy restaurants and blow drying my hair … these days it’s more like paint spattered overalls and drinking champagne too quick to relieve the muscle aches of renovating.
