We are back tomorrow at the market with Frankie the caravan. Gorgeous weather has been forecast… come and check out our new wares…. Jan Power’s Powerhouse Market, New Farm 6-1pm x
Ah, the weekend feels like it was forever ago now, however this is what we got up to… Saturday morning clocked around and I made boiled eggs for Timothy O and I
using our new egg cosies, pure joy… our girls aren’t laying right now as they are still molting – you can’t lay and regrow feathers at the same time they tell me… cheeky free loaders….
I had the ‘Trixie’ cosy….
After breakfast we couldn’t find the chickens anywhere in the yard…. sheer panic….. as I was hightailing it out the front to see if they had escaped onto to the street through the garden I heard a little ‘cluck’ from the sofa…. they had snuck upstairs, down the hallway and were all bundled in the living room together…. never trust a chicken…. they are sneaky… ha…
I filled up this new piece of furniture which I recently picked up on my travels down rural Victoria…. it doesn’t fit inside, oops. so it is happily on the back deck….
… I found some amazing blue and natural nautical rope…
… and then I worked late into the evening on a project I hope to share with you soon…
Sunday was a bit random actually. There is a house two doors up which is being demolished. An elderly lady who I used to wave hello to passed away about two years ago. She lived alone and would seldom receive any visits from family or friends, except the ‘meals on wheels’ people who would deliver her meals through a tiny hole in the wall. Her large family house has been vacant for some time, so when I saw the demolisher people on Sunday I asked if I could have a last look inside….
… an old bar which I’m sure saw some laughs and good times back in the day…
… the family room upstairs…
… must admit I felt a bit sad after I left the house…. I just wanted to piece the story together in my head… people’s spirit and joy really are the most important elements when it comes to a home… if you don’t have that the home will always feel empty…
… so I came home and backed a cake…. a Madeira cake…. I love how the top splits right down the middle… recipe tomorrow.
… then packed a few days worth of bits into my bag and I hit the road again… I shall be back for this weekend’s market at the Powerhouse.

Happy Monday! Here we go… Weekend in Pictures…. let’s just say this weekend flew past.. I didn’t get up to my usual cooking or recipe experimenting, or even hanging with the girls
bad chicken muma... It was just a ‘Wham Bamm, Thank You Mamm’ kinda of weekend….with lots of loads of clothes washing from our last road trip…. On Saturday I attending my friend Lulu Lucky’s debut calligraphy class at the upstairs studio of Anna Spiro’s shop ‘Black and Spiro’… it was divine…. there was one moment where I swear I felt like I was up in a roof top studio above Paris, in the 5th arrondissement, circa 1940 and all the ear could hear was metal inky calligraphy nibs scratching on heavy weight paper….practising and writing letters to loved ones… while perfecting our kerning along to the musical talent of Edith Piaf ….. what a joy Saturday was….. I came home with my calligraphy tester sheet and shot this image….. let’s just say I’m much better at photography than I am at calligraphy….
Come Sunday morning Timothy O and I had a pot of tea in bed…
we never do this….. and how much of a luxury it felt…….
… we discussed my driving route for Monday morning’s
today’s road trip down to Melbourne to host my ‘Vignette Class’ with The School….. If you are in Melbourne you should totally come along!
My new friend from Sydney James Gordon
and his dog Bob made this amazing paper rose for us while we were there last week…. I am absolutely in love with it…. I found the perfect place to hang it….. he is a paper genius….
I walked into my local secondhand book shop while waiting for my coffee Sunday afternoon and I found this book…. I only just recently discovered this book after staying with a good friends’ mother in Tamworth, enroute to Brisbane last week….. (more to come of this story soon)…. am in love with this book G.E. xx
Late Sunday afternoon I built up this pretty vignette…… I drew upon my pressing road trip for inspiration…. I can’t tell you how exited I am to get back out onto the open road and witness all the beautiful colours and landscape once again! Melbourne I am so exited to meet you all this Thursday and Friday in St Kilda! If you too would like to come along to one of my Vignette workshops you can book here.…. tickets are $120 and I promise you it will be a night filled with inspiration, laughter and joy! The best kind of cocktail.
So, those Sydney classes for my ‘Vignette Workshop’ snapped up pretty quick and sold out…. never fear, we have decided to offer an extra class on Tuesday evening – that’s next Tuesday.
If you missed out pop on over to The School’s website to book your spot. $120
As you know I’m hitting the road next week with Frankie the caravan and going down the east coast of Australia…. to coincide with this I’m also offering is a ‘How To…’ class on Vignettes – otherwise known as a still life. I adore a perfectly balanced and well composed still life.
If you are curious how I put together my bits and pieces then you should come along. I will be covering a whole range of topics on the subject and will be talking you through how to achieve the perfect vignette for the home, for social media or for work…
NEW SYDNEY DATE ADDED – TUESDAY NIGHT
Happy Easter….Did you have a good Easter? A rest? I must admit, Easter is actually my favourite of holidays. I think it must be the casualness of Easter, unlike Christmas…. plus I do love it when a few degrees drop off the daily temperatures here in Queensland….
Each morning started in the same old fashion here over the four day break…. a big pot of leaf tea, warmed hot cross buns and lots of reading…. I had the books and Timothy O had the ipad
his latest friend…
I found a whole bunch of mid century Danish leather cushions last week…. perfectly worn in weathered buttery leather…. so I rearranged a few bits to accommodate them…
Our girls went to my parents house for a few days for a change of scenery… Gigi has gone broody again, so we placed these old handmade china eggs under her until we had a chance to drive the flock over to my folks house….. A change of scenery for about four days will help broody hens come off the nest….hot tip of the week…
Frankie the caravan needed a bit of an old spit and polish before her ‘Grand Roadtrip’ down the east coast next week
ohmygosh… it’s only next week….so much to do.….. So we spent a few days giving her some love…
Most days ended like this over the break… lighting the wood fire oven and watching the flames dance…..
Can’t believe how much the passionfruit vine has grown over the past few months…. love how the vine is covering the oven …
Man and Fire….ah, Timothy O…. he loves his oven…..
We decided to make a strawberry and peach crumble down in the garden and cook it in the wood fire oven…..
It was amazing….
Next in was this big fellow, stuffed with lemon and parsley….. yes… we really did make dessert before dinner… ha. Why not…..
My favourite way to cook potatoes…. in a bag… par boil, get your stapler, wrap the potatoes in grease proof paper with salt and pepper and olive oil, then staple it up… genius!… you can do this in a conventional oven too!
… and then most evenings ended this way… watching the afternoon become night…
Timothy O made a bracket for my new old ladder….
I had a play around with these…..At this time of year I’m really drawn to wool……I was lucky enough to work with the amazing Jacqueline Fink of Little Dandelion on a small project last week, so I had these beautiful trims left over… such colours of autumn….
Here is one of Little Dandelion’s knitted blankets in my living room…. ah, the texture… I just can’t get enough….
Love a knit…. love a chunky knit more….
Come Monday afternoon I was a bit over all the chocolate in the house….the fridge was just exploding with eggs and bunnies….. so I melted the sweet menagerie down and made a cake….
… a beautiful rich and moist dark chocolate flourless cake….. it hit just the spot as the rain came down outside….
I’ll post the recipe tomorrow… be warned… it’s a long one, though well worth it.
Hope you all had a brilliant Easter and rest.
That’s right… I have been searching high and low to bring you some new exciting old wares for your home….. especially the kitchen…ah, my happy place… expect copper cookware, old glass bottles galore. beautiful wooden objects made by hand, both large and small…. and the unexpected thrown in too…
Too excited for words… set your alarms…. 8am Sydney time,
yes, I know, I am in Brisbane, which means it is actually 7am.
Frankie Does Sydney….That’s right! I’m hitting the road with Frankie the caravan, packing up all of our wares and embarking on an old school road trip down the east coast of Australia! Yup, windows down, music up and golden sunshine on the horizon.
First stop will be Megan Morton’s The School for a two day market on the 13th and 14th of April….. if you are in Sydney keep that weekend free…. Frankie, Timothy O and I would love to meet you! Not sure on times yet, though The School’s address is 85 Dunning Ave, Rosebery…..
Spread the word… Pass it on…
