Weekend in Pictures

Ah, Weekend in Pictures… it was a market weekend, so that meant Saturday got off to a very early start….. the alarm went off at 2.45am … I usually am up before the alarm goes off anyway… just in bed waiting for it to go off…. you know when you know you have something on and you never have a proper night’s sleep the night before… well, that is me before a market…. excited!

… we had loads of new stock on the trestle tables… enamel ware, baking tins, breadboards…. it was such a fun day… always so great to see familiar faces and also new ones… we also look forward to seeing our market friends who also have stalls…. there is such warm camaraderie between us all….

… after the market we decided to drop in to visit the newly opened Cardigan Bar at Sandgate… my friend Sally O of Studio Sixty always knows about cool and hip happenings around town before I do; Sally mentioned this place a couple of weeks back, so Timothy O and I thought we would call in for a visit and a cheeky drink post market….. it was fantastic, I would highly recommend it, especially if you are northside… love a bit of cool on the northside….

… Timothy O and I then decided to hit the road and and get home as we were both a bit shattered after the early rise of the market, we were in bed by 7pm ha …..

… Sunday morning clocked around and these cheeky feather bombs were trying their hardest to get inside the house…. I’m still puzzled as to why they love being indoors so much….

… I decided to start a little ‘mirror wall’ in the bathroom with some old mirrors I had been collecting… still need a few more to fill the space…

rosenlund_0008

… I love this time of year for flowers… I bought a bunch of stocks from a grower at the market and put them in the bathroom… their fragrance is divine…..

… a bunch of foliage – not sure what is it… I bought it to decorate the trestle tables at the market… I thought it was camellia foliage, though it smells very unique….. kinda strange…

… my absolute favourite for this time of year though are jonquils….. these ones are actually from my garden, more like travelling pots. I planted a crazy amount of jonquil bulbs years ago into pots and they still come up this time of year to say hello…. I adore their fragrance like nothing else…..

… keeping on the accidental floral theme I picked up these local organic edible flowers from the market, so I decided to ‘sweeten’ them up and ‘sugar’ the pansies, snaps dragons and violets to decorate a cake….

rosenlund_0012

… it was really easy to do… I just whisked an egg white with a teaspoon of water and then ‘painted’ the flower using a brush with the egg white wash…. then I used a small hand strainer and sprinkled the individual flower on my finger tips with caster sugar…

… then I placed them on a piece of greaseproof paper and let them set over night…

rosenlund_0014

… so pretty and so easy….

.. atop my chocolate cake…. the flowers look much prettier than the cake…

Hope you had a wonderful weekend…
