Weekend in Pictures

Beautiful Autumn Day for the market.

Getting some foliage ready for the tables. I am in LOVE with this stuff right now!

New stock – these plates are fantastic!

A really special old box with original paint and gold gild writing.

More new stock

Cleaning the house after the market, also known as rearranging everything in a delirious state.

Trying to draw energy from watching the flames dance, exhausted after the market (and rearranging the house).

Still sitting by the fire many hours later.

Sunday breakfast at Cirque

Timothy O’s emergency haircut

The drinks trolley.

Washed and ironed the new upholstery for the banquette seating.

Realised that the floorboards in the new dining room are going to be the next job. Ohmy….

New shelves for the linen press.

Rearranging bits.

More rearranging bits.

Weekend in Pictures, here they are. It was a market weekend, which happens to be my favourite kind of weekend!  It’s always so great seeing our regular customers and meeting new ones. Catching up with friends who drop by and striking up conversations with strangers. It really can be so inspiring meeting new people and sharing a brief moment in time with them.

The only down side is feeling a bit shattered afterwards. Once we were home I turned into some crazy cleaning person and decided that our house needed to be cleaned and straightened out… right now! So I rearranged furniture and cleaned while Timothy O got the wood fire oven ready downstairs. Then I found a chair in front of the fire and stayed firmly ‘put’ for a few hours…. exhausted.

Come Sunday morning Timothy O and I decided to high tail it out for breakfast to Cirque in New Farm. One of our regular customers Lovely G, humbly mentioned that she had a local cafe and a few of my bits were being used there when she came by on Saturday at the market…. the cafe turned out to be Cirque(hello…complete and utter hot spot and extremely popular with amazing produce!)  I felt very excited when Timothy O spotted some of our plates.

Sunday was slipping away so we dashed to get a haircut for Timothy O, while this was happening I ran into a large mainstream ‘homemaker’ type store and was stopped in my tracks… shocked by their new collection for the home; shocked in a bad way. Completely devaluing and ripping off original antique pieces and even humble bric-a-brac in a way I actually hadn’t seen before. Though ‘double standard’ me actually bought a trolley from the ‘homemaker’ shop…. I put it down to being in shock and forgetting where I was… utter shock!

Came home, decided I really did love my new drinks trolley, no matter where it came from, thought for a second that maybe I won’t tell you guys about it, then I thought, no, I will…. I washed and ironed the new upholstery for the banquette seating….. I realised that I will soon be doing more floor sanding and white washing,  I felt sick, ….. made some new shelves for the linen press and rearranged more stuff around the house like a mad woman.

That was it.

How was your weekend?

  1. WOW! You were busy! I did very much of nothing…the upholstery looks amazing! I am totally loving this space. May I suggest some seagrass matting for the floor – it is really very easy to lay down!! xx

    • Hahaha….. I wish I could do it Sally…. I just can’t…. almost there….. just one more effort and then no more drum sander or edger ever again…. until the next house. x

  2. the boys had breakfast at Cirque on Sunday, one of our old haunts! must have been a weekend for re-arranging I sorted my creative space – now I just need to find the time to use it! x

  3. Your house looks beautiful Kara – loving the white. It’s the inspiration I need to push on and finish our bedroom. Can you believe I still haven’t finished painting one room?!
I’m having problems finding the right kind of wardrobe (your pic reminded me!)…I’m looking for a beaten up, old french style one (like Dave Coote’s refurb ones). Do you have any clues as to where I could look in/around Brisbane? Am looking for something fairly plain, quite large (at least 1.9m) and very solid. x

  4. Your weekends always inspire me! (As does your beautiful home… wistful sigh!) :)

My weekend was full of family and friends, which was lovely and also a bit tiring. Sometimes it’s nice to just stop and do nothing for a day after a busy week! :)

  5. Please apologise again to Timothy O that I mistook him for a pig farmer. It was the Hunter wellies. It’s so lovely to break up the grocery shopping with a spot of treasure hunting. Is the little white enamel lampshade still available?

    xx

    • Hi Ally!
How are you? No problem with Timothy O, he thought it was funny. I think he would much prefer to be a farmer some days. Yes. the little white enamel light shade is still available. I’ll reserve it for you and bring it along this saturday if you like. x
